Seniors! Apply for the Brian Hoff Scholarship!

bullet

This scholarship honors the memory of former Panther Basketball player Brian Hoff, his love for the game, and his legacy of hustle on the court.

bullet

This is a $1,000 college scholarship. You must have made plans to attend college and detail your efforts to make that happen. Financial need will be considered as well as the applicants' dedication to the KO basketball program. Every effort will be made to choose the person whom Brian would choose if he were still with us.

bullet

Click here to download the form (in Microsoft Word format). You need to fill in the form, provide the documentation requested, and submit your application in a large envelope to Mr. Nelson (who has envelopes!) in room 238A no later than Monday, March 1st.

Panthers fall to Spring in season finale 81-73.

bullet

It was a valiant effort, and the Panthers led by one at the half, but ultimately the Lions showed why they are the champions of 13-5A.

Panthers surrender 4th quarter lead, fall to Dekaney 85-75.

bullet

Things looked good when the Panthers grabbed a 63-59 lead with about 7:00 left. But then the shots stopped dropping and the Panther surrendered 15 unanswered points. It looked like they had just exhausted themselves in the process of coming back from a large 1st half deficit.

bullet

JV and Varsity pictures are here.

bullet

The season concludes Tuesday at Spring.

Panthers comeback against K.F. falls short in OT, 80-74.

bullet

The Panthers dug themselves a 15 point hole in the first quarter, 20-5. Ouch! But they played the Golden Eagles even in the 2nd quarter and inched closer in the 3rd. Still the Panthers trailed by 11 after three quarters. But an amazing 29 point 4th quarter sent the game into overtime. You've got to like the tenacity!

Booster Club Meeting!

bullet

Thursday, February 11th

bullet

6:30 pm in the Athletic Meeting Room (across from the gym).

Panthers comeback falters in loss to Westfield 59-48.

bullet

For a time in the 4th quarter it looked like the Panthers would seize another come-from-behind victory over Westfield. But the shots stopped dropping - a problem most of the night - and Westfield made theirs this time. But it was a good effort by the Panthers.

bullet

The loss drops the Panthers to 4-7 in district and pretty much ends any hopes of the playoffs. So let's hope the Panthers can relax and go grab a win at Klein Forest on Tuesday.

bullet

Senior Night, Varsity, Sophomore and Freshmen Black and Gold pictures are here.

Panthers fall to Tomball by four.

bullet

The Panthers had a ten point lead in the middle of the 3rd quarter and then completely self-destructed. It was not good.

bullet

Congratulations to the JV Panthers on a thrilling, hard fought victory over the Cougars. Well done, gentlemen! That was inspiring.

bullet

JV pictures are here. Varsity is coming.

Panthers fall in heartbreaker at Klein 52-49.

bullet

This was just a great game except for the final score. Two good teams, both playing hard, both playing great defense, close the whole way.

bullet

Two Joe Loisel free throws put the Panthers in front 49-47 with about 30 seconds to go. But the Bearkats nailed a three with about 14 seconds left. The Panthers couldn't convert at the other end and the Bearkats grabbed the board and slammed it home at the buzzer to provide the three point margin.

bullet

It was a great effort, Panthers, and we are very proud of you. But the Panthers find themselves at 4-5 and in need of wins to stay in the playoff hunt. Fortunately we have two home games next week; obviously we need both of those. Go get Tomball!

bullet

Varsity and JV pictures are here.

Panthers grab 2nd win over Collins to start 2nd round!

bullet

The Panthers raced to a 15 point halftime lead and coasted to a 76-66 victory. Nice work Panthers!

bullet

The win evens the Panthers district record at 4-4 and puts them in a 4th place tie with Klein Forest. Go get the Bearcats on Friday!

bullet

Pictures are here for Freshmen Gold and Freshmen Black. Sophomores coming.

Banquet headcount needed! Parents, please respond.

bullet

We need a headcount for players and family members planning to attend the banquet.  We will announce details on the Date, Time, and Location soon.  In the meantime, please complete the form to provide a headcount for planning.

bullet

Click here for the form. Thank you!

Panthers lose to #1 Spring 101-82.

bullet

There's just no positive way to describe this. We don't consistently have five guys playing defense. 82 points should be enough to win.

bullet

Kudos to our JV team. These are the hardest working bunch of Panthers in my 25 years with KO basketball. Once again they came up just short of a victory. But they sure will make you proud watching them play. Thanks, guys. Hang in there. It might not seem like it at the moment but hard work really will pay off.

bullet

Pictures of the Varsity, JV  and Sophomore games are here. I didn't get freshmen team pics this night but they are coming from Tuesday's games against Collins.

Panthers fall to Dekaney on the road 92-76.

bullet

You can't win without defense. The Panthers just didn't get it done on the defensive end. It was just about that simple.

bullet

For three quarters they did match baskets with the Wildcats but then things stopped falling for the Panthers in the final period.

bullet

Pictures of the Varsity and JV games are here.

bullet

The Panthers will regroup and hopefully resolve to play some D when the Spring Lions come to Oak on Friday. Let's get it done, Panthers.

Panthers lose a heartbreaker to Klein Forest 66-60.

bullet

It was closer than that score indicates. One point with one minute left. But KF had the possession and so that was the critical point. The Eagles #13 made his free throws and the Panthers couldn't get anything to fall in the closing minute.

bullet

Panthers, understand that we are very proud of you. This was a whale of a 5A varsity basketball game between two excellent teams - there's a reason why KF was the pre-season pick. And you were right there with them all the way. You played hard, you played well, and we are very proud of you. We're disappointed for you, but we're sure not disappointed in you.

bullet

Unfortunately the night went the same way for the other Panther teams. So everyone should have plenty of incentive to return the favor in a couple of weeks when the Panthers travel to KF.

bullet

Pictures from all games are here.

bullet

The loss drops the Panthers in to a three way tie for 2nd place with Westfield (51-41 winner over Collins) and Tomball (67-54 winner over Dekaney). Spring was a three point winner over Klein on Friday. The Panthers travel to Dekaney on Tuesday, so focus on getting the Wildcats!

Believe it! Panthers come way back, down Westfield 59-58!

bullet

If anyone left in the middle of the 4th quarter with the Panthers trailing by double digits, it was a huge mistake. We might forgive them though. Overcoming a big lead on the road against a talented and athletic bunch of Mustangs didn't seem likely. The Mustang pressure had frustrated the Panthers all night - at one time we had five consecutive possessions without a shot.

bullet

The Panthers had other ideas. Down the stretch it was the Panthers' defensive pressure that forced turnovers. That plus poise and determination, and hustle, and class. The Panthers cut the lead but still trailed by five with 2:00 left and the Mustangs playing keep away. The Panthers had to foul, rebound, and score. And with less than a minute left Colby Daniel calmly stroked a three from the corner to give the Panthers the 59-58 lead. Westfield went for the last shot, got it - well defensed - in the paint. The Panthers rebounded and secured the win. Awesome! And really almost beyond belief.

bullet

The celebration was glorious, and well deserved by a bunch of Panthers who have overcome so much, proved so much, and earned this special night. Panthers, you've awed us and we are very, very proud of you. And that certainly includes Coach Newton and his staff. Well done, gentlemen!

bullet

The game was broadcast by TSRNsports. Click here for the TSRN archive. Varsity and JV pictures are here. Sorry. That's all I got this time. Any parent want to take some pictures? I have a camera and lens you can use! Send me a note.

bullet

So the Panthers are 3-1 and in first place (tied with Spring) but they face a stiff challenge at home on Friday against the pre-season district favorite Klein Forest Golden Eagles. Back in the glory days of KO Basketball - nearly a quarter century ago now - our slogan was "Expect to Win!" I think we've finally got another bunch of Panthers who do. Beat Forest!

Huge win! Panthers down Tomball 79-73 at Tomball and tie for 1st place in 13-5A!!!

bullet

This was so big not only because they defeated Tomball on the road but also because of the way they did it. After enjoying a lead in the 2nd, the Panthers were in a 15 point hole in the 3rd quarter. The shots just weren't falling, especially for leading scorers Colby Daniel, Terry Johnson, and Zack Price. JohnPaul Wiechkoskie, Joe Loisel, and Aaron Holley led the way early. In the past the Panthers have imploded in similar situations. Not tonight!

bullet

The Panthers turned up the pressure defensively and crashed the boards. Then the shots started falling. Led by determined efforts by Terry and Colby - and just an amazing defensive effort by Joe (who drew the toughest assignment) - the Panthers turned this around and tied the game at 59! Then they had to overcome another Cougar spurt as they grabbed a 65-59 lead. It was all Panthers the rest of the way - clutch threes by Terry, tough inside play by Colby, Joe and Zack. Calm playmaking by Zack and Brandon Harris (great game, Brandon!). It was a total team effort. Then the Cougars decided to foul Zack. It looked like a good strategy - his shots weren't falling. But Zack was just flawless as he toed the line time after time and slammed the door shut on the Cougars' evening.

bullet

The Panthers look like a team that dug down deep inside and found themselves on a cold night in Tomball. Panthers, we are very proud of you. It hasn't been an easy road and you played like champions tonight! After the first week of district play the Panthers stand proudly at 2-1 and tied for first place! Congratulations, gentlemen! Go get Westfield - it's another road game but that's no problem for these guys - on Tuesday! Go Oak!!!

bullet

The Freshmen Gold team grabbed another clutch district win at Tomball. Way to go, Panthers! Unfortunately the Black team had one of those nights when the shots weren't falling and - despite a valiant comeback attempt - fell to the Cougars. Your day is coming, Panthers! The JV played very well but also fell cold at the wrong time and lost a close one. The Sophomores also lost. Hang in there, guys. You are all hard workers and we believe in you! Beat Westfield! Pictures from all games are here.

Panthers fall to Klein 74-61.

bullet

Once again it didn't have to end this way. The Panthers had an opportunity to defeat a very good Klein squad. They dominated the first quarter but the shots weren't falling. Klein put together a spurt and the Panthers panicked, resulting in a sudden deficit after a quarter.

bullet

Overall there was way to much one-on-one play and too little of the team play that has made the Panthers successful in the past. The result was a disappointing home loss. But the mistakes are correctable and are probably the result over wanting a win so much that they didn't play the smart basketball they are capable of. Regroup guys and let's go get Tomball on Friday!

bullet

Unfortunately the JV and Sophomore teams also suffered defeat on Tuesday.

bullet

Congratulations, though, to both of our Freshmen teams. Both scored impressive wins over the Bearkats! The Gold squad had to overcome a big Klein lead but they didn't falter, turned it up on the defensive end and dominated the boards - Garrett Hardin was a force! - to turn the tide grab the win. Nice work, Panthers!

bullet

The Black team put on a defensive clinic for most of the game. And there were some memorable assists offensively. Great team play by a bunch of guys who obviously enjoy playing the game the way it is intended to be played. You make us proud, Panthers!

bullet

Pictures will all be here. Freshmen Black and Gold pics are posted; the others are coming. Beat Tomball!

Klein Oak 75, Klein Collins 59! Congratulations, Panthers!

bullet

After a difficult couple of weeks for everyone, the Panthers showed their mettle with a strong performance on the road against the Tigers. They had to overcome another slow start with the Tigers grabbing an eight point lead and holding that for a time. But the Panthers got on track and grabbed a two point lead at the half.

bullet

The Tigers regained the lead early in the 3rd quarter but after that it was all Panthers. Strong defense and a great effort on both boards were the difference as the Panthers built 14 point lead after three, and a comfortable 20 point margin midway through the 4th quarter.

bullet

It was a great team win - just what the doctor ordered! Great rebounding by Terry Johnson, Max Stevenson, Andre Pitts, Colby Daniel and Joe Loisel. Great shooting by Terry, especially in the tough first half! And Andre just has to be the best put back guy around. Colby and Joe aren't bad either - very tough in the paint.

bullet

There's no time to rest, though, as the Panthers host the surprising Klein Bearkats (who had a big win against Tomball) on Tuesday. Let's go Oak!

bullet

Unfortunately the sub-varsity guys didn't fare as well on the scoreboard. Hang in there Panthers. We get to play again on Tuesday! Pictures of all the games can be found by clicking here.

Panthers beat Jersey Village then fall to Cy-Fair in finals.

bullet

In the first Wednesday game the Panthers controlled the action and led most of the way against Jersey Village. The final score of 85-79 indicates that this was not a defensive struggle and the lack of defense is what prevented the Panthers from pulling away. The impressive thing was the Panthers sharpshooting - especially Colby Bates and Terry Johnson from three point range. Add some tough work on the boards and in the paint from Andre Pitts and some great passes by Zack Price and Brandon Harris and we have a winning combination! Nice work, Panthers! Pictures are here. [You'll have to overlook the fact that my lens was front focusing. That's what I get for using a different lens!]

bullet

The Panthers had 90 minutes between games versus twice that for the Bobcats. The difference of lunch and rest showed in game two today. The good guys fought hard, cutting the game to two points in the 2nd half but couldn't overcome a very good Cy-Fair team. The final was 66-50. Congratulations to the Bobcats.

bullet

Panthers, get ready for Collins on Saturday. This will be huge! All games are at KC, with the varsity at 2 pm. Let's go Oak!

Panthers down MacArthur 64-53 in 2nd round.

bullet

The Panthers made good on the potential shown late in Monday's game to conquer the Generals.

bullet

The Panthers will play on Wednesday at 10:30 am in "the pit" against Jersey Village. Let's go Oak!

Panthers slow start results in loss to Texas City.

bullet

A slow start is a bit of an understatement. The Panthers dug themselves too big of a hole to climb out of. Part of the reason was the absence of several players as a result of the technicals against Katy last week.

bullet

Those players returned in the 4th quarter and the Panthers were back to normal. It was great to have Zack Price back also. But it was way too late to mount a comeback. The final score was T.C. 75, Oak 56. Click here for pictures.

bullet

One gets a feeling, though, that Tuesday is going to be a different story. The Panthers play at 4:30 in Porter gym against the loser of the Cy-Woods - MacArthur game. Let's get back on the winning track, Panthers!

Support the varsity in the Conroe Tournament!

bullet

The Panthers face Texas City on Monday at 3 pm at Conroe High School's Porter gym. [Take I-45 north to 105, turn left. Conroe H.S. is on the right. "Porter" and "the pit" are side-by-side, with Porter on the east side.]

Panthers fall to Katy 64-61.

bullet

This one didn't have to end this way. The Panthers trailed by two at the half and led by two after three periods. The score was tied with three minutes remaining. Then after an intentional foul call the Panthers were called for two technicals after an embarrassing display of belligerence and poor sportsmanship. Three Panthers were sent to the locker room as the Tigers shot six free throws to put the game out of reach. The five remaining Panthers fought valiantly down the stretch - we appreciate you five - but couldn't overcome the free throw points. It was a very sad ending to a great basketball game.

bullet

Good news from all the other games - the Panthers swept the rest of them! JV won 65-53 in a great game! The Sophomores dominated more than the 59-44 score suggests - outstanding work, gentlemen! And both Freshmen teams won, although the games were moved to a Junior High and I don't know the scores. I do know we are very proud of all these teams!

bullet

Pictures of the Varsity. JV and Sophomore games are here. The Varsity returns to action on Monday at the Conroe Tournament against Texas City. In the meantime, Merry Christmas, Panthers!

Panthers fall to The Woodlands 78-57.

bullet

The Panthers come away from this game frustrated and disappointed at the loss, but with plenty of positives to build on. Playing without several key players - including Zack Price and Max Stevenson - our guys actually had a two point lead at the half against the powerful Highlanders. So we should know we can play with anyone. But we definitely missed Zack and Max.

bullet

The first half featured impressive performances by everyone. Colby Daniel was terrific as usual, but your reporter was impressed by the strong play of Aaron Holley, Andre Pitts, and Terry Johnson. Great hustle - a few nice threes by Terry - and excellent work on the boards! And JohnPaul Wiechkoskie was strong in his first start despite coming off a serious illness the last couple of days.

bullet

Unfortunately the Panthers suffered a lapse in the middle of the 3rd quarter that put them in a hole. And then they started pressing too much. It isn't easy learning to have the confidence to win, and it showed here.

bullet

Fortunately the Panthers get another chance on Monday as they travel to Katy to tackle the Tigers. Let's get it done, gentlemen! We're proud of you!

bullet

JV pictures are here. Varsity pictures are here, Sophomores are here and Freshmen Gold pictures are here. Pictures of the other games are coming. Stay tuned. Beat Katy!

Thanks to the parents who attended the booster club meeting on Wednesday!

bullet

Coach Tommy Newton was introduced and discussed his philosophy and answered questions. Booster President Ernest Davis discussed the financial situation of the club, the upcoming free throw "shoot-a-thon" fundraiser, and plans for the banquet and AAU league teams.

bullet

Several parents said they were not receiving e-mails from the booster club. So we have created a form for you to sign-up to receive e-mails. Just click here, fill in the form, and you will be added to the list!

Panthers can't overcome 1st quarter, fall 59-67 to South Houston.

bullet

The Panthers surrendered 25 points in the 1st quarter and trailed by twelve. They cut the lead to seven heading into the final period but couldn't pull it out. Colby Daniel had 25 points for the Panthers and Zack Price 24.

bullet

The JV and both freshmen teams grabbed wins at South Houston. Congratulations to all! [The Sophomore game was cancelled by South Houston.]

New pictures are posted.

Panthers down Kempner 57-47, run record to 6-4!

bullet

The varsity Panthers picked up where they left off on Saturday night, jumping to an early lead and controlling the game. When Zack Price nailed two clutch threes - including a buzzer beater - in the final minute of the 3rd quarter to give the Panthers a 16 point lead after three there wasn't much doubt left. Way to go, Zack!

bullet

Once again the Panthers were impressive with their team play. This time it was the Panther guards who led the way - Zack, Colby Daniel and Brandon Harris loosened things up with a nice shooting performance as the physical Cougars were clogging the middle of the paint. It was a very competitive game but the Panthers handled the pressure and competed strongly. It was another great team win! Photos!

bullet

The Freshmen Black Panthers also were impressive in victory. Photos! Unfortunately the JV, Sophomore, and Freshmen Gold Panthers didn't fare as well, although all the games were very competitive and everyone has something positive to build on. Considering that this was only the 2nd game for these three teams, they are looking pretty good.

bullet

Pictures of all these games are coming. J.V. pics now posted! Thanks again to Karen Wilkerson for shooting the Freshmen Gold and Sophomore games! And if anyone else is willing to help with photos, please contact the webmaster. I have a camera you can use!

Panthers control Livingston in 66-51 win!

bullet

The Panthers grabbed a lead early and controlled the game in an impressive showing against Livingston. Everyone played well this night and what impressed was the selflessness of the Panther offense. Just lots of great assists leading to lots of points in the paint. Max Stevenson dominated in there against the smaller Lions and he and Aaron Holley did a nice job on the boards. Colby Daniel dazzled Panther fans with slick passes, moves to the bucket and outside shooting.

bullet

I could really mention every Panther who saw the floor. It was a great team win. Nice work, Panthers! Click here for photos. Beat Kempner on Monday!

Weather causes cancellations.

bullet

The Klein ISD Freshmen Tournament has been cancelled.

bullet

The Yates JV Tournament games for Friday have been scrubbed. We're still awaiting word about Saturday games.

bullet

Katy Varsity Tournament - All games for Friday have been cancelled. Due to travel restrictions also faced by most participating schools on Saturday - Klein ISD will not allow travel until 10 am, for example - the tournament brackets are history.

bullet

Update - The varsity will play Livingston at 4:30 on Saturday at Cinco Ranch High School. [I-10 west to Grand Parkway - left/south on Grand Parkway - exit Cinco Ranch Blvd. - turn right and you're there.]

Panthers split a pair on first day of Katy Tournament.

bullet

The Panthers pulled out a close one on Thursday morning, downing Rosenberg Terry 65-60. The game was tied at the half. Colby Daniel led the scoring with 27. Nice job, Colby!

bullet

Unfortunately they didn't fare as well in the nightcap against defending tournament champion Seven Lakes, falling 81-47 despite 22 points from Zack Price and 17 from Colby Daniel.

Panthers grab Bronze division championship in Georgetown!

bullet

The varsity travelled to Georgetown for the Thanksgiving tournament. The first game against Bastrop got away from them after leading until the 4th quarter. Final score - KO 72, Bastrop 75.

bullet

The second contest was one the Panthers would like to forget. They just didn't play well and suffered a 54-74 loss to Austin Reagan.

bullet

This put the Panthers in the "Bronze" division after pool play and they defeated Cigarroa 76-63 and then Houston Furr 69-40 to claim the championship of the "Bronze" division (and a really cool trophy!).

bullet

The annual Meet the Panthers night and Chili Cook-Off was an immediate success. Thanks to Karen Wilkerson for taking these pictures! [Note: The link is fixed so you don't need a password.]

Panthers blast Cy-Ranch!

bullet

The Panthers raced to a 21-8 first quarter lead and never looked back. Your webmaster missed this game (they obviously should pay me to stay away!) so I don't have any details. The Chronicle reports that Colby Daniel led the scoring with 29, Zack Price had 21, and Joe Loisel chipped in 10. (Don't bet on any of that being accurate, though.) Here's the box score:

  1 2 3 4 Final
Cy-Ranch 8 13 11 17 49
Klein Oak 21 18 28 18 85

Panthers slow start proves costly in loss to Oak Ridge.

bullet

The first couple of minutes were ugly for the Panthers at Oak Ridge tonight. When they got on track they had dug themselves a double digit hole. Then the game was very good. The Panthers cut it to three in the 4th quarter but couldn't execute consistently enough down the stretch to pull it out. The final was Oak Ridge 62, Panthers 50. Click here for pictures.

bullet

Congratulations to the Sophomore Panthers - double overtime winners (click here for pictures) - and the Freshmen Black Panthers who grabbed a 54-26 halftime lead and coasted to an easy win. Nice work by both teams. Freshmen Black pictures.

bullet

The Freshmen Gold Panthers suffered through a stretch of turnovers in the first half which put them in a big hole but then battled valiantly before falling 45-43 at the final seconds. Nice effort, guys! Click here for photos. [Click for some thoughts on our freshmen.]

bullet

The JV game was pretty much like the varsity game - falling behind 11-1 and then getting things going. They made a game of it with their determination also but couldn't overcome the slow start. JV pictures.

bullet

Photos of the non-varsity games are coming but your correspondent took over 2200 pictures and that will take many days of processing. So please be patient. Thanks to Mrs. Wilkerson for shooting the Sophomore game. Those pics will be coming also!
