Klein Oak Basketball

... Home of the Panthers!

Our Freshmen

Your Webmaster's thoughts on our Freshmen (for what it's worth):

I'm not a coach, but I've been closely involved with basketball since my high school days and with Klein Oak Basketball for the last 25 years. So I've been following 5A basketball up close since 1972.

I'm really impressed by our freshmen after the opening night experience at Oak Ridge. Obviously our Black team is really outstanding. They proved that on opening day. That is really exciting because this might be the best team we've ever had at Klein Oak. And, although we haven't been a playoff force recently, we've had teams ranked as high as #6 in the state.

But I'm even more excited by what I saw from our Gold team. Yes, they lost 45-43. But what I saw from them I've never seen before in a freshmen "B" team. Every single one of these guys are real honest-to-goodness basketball players! That's so amazing!

Usually the "B" team is comprised of guys who want to play basketball but only a few of them could ever be imagined as a 5A varsity basketball player. Not so this year, Panther fans!

They all need something. They need to grow and mature physically. They all need more experience (so they won't panic when the opponent makes a run, as Oak Ridge did). They all need coaching, which they will get at Klein Oak. And some of them need to spend some serious time in the weight room. [Many of our turnovers - the major problem at Oak Ridge - was simply due to a strength deficit.] But every single one of these young men can flat out play basketball!

I've never seen this before from a bunch of freshmen. It's exciting and I wanted everyone to know what I saw.
