Burton McLain has
coached boys and girls basketball for eleven years in junior
high and high school. His teams have been successful, many
times winning district. He played his junior year in college
at Baylor University on a full scholarship and was an
all-Southwest Conference selection. He averaged 22 points a
game, scoring mostly on jump shots and defensive steals for
layups. ( This was before the 3-pointers) The first two
years were at Amarillo College where he averaged in the
twenty range per game and was all-district selections. At
Amarillo High School, in Amarillo, Texas, the state
newspaper writers selected him and the other guard, the best
two guards in the state on the same team. The other guard
went to TCU and they guarded each other in one game and
Burton hit 8 for 8 shots. (The other guard most have been
taking it easy on his best friend.)
Burton finished at West
Texas State University with a bachelor of science degree. He
earned his Masters degree at Prairie View A&M University
with a 3.8 grade point average (one B).
Burton believes in
playing only on our offensive end with numerous pressure
defenses. On offense have a variety of offenses, use
screens, pick and rolls, with good passing, dribbling and
rebounding with fast break in mind.
He is excited,
thankful, and looking forward to helping Coach Floyd bring
out the best in each player, so that the team can reach it’s
full potential (that means win district).
He is married to Nancy,
and they live in Tomball. Burton has been blessed with 8
children, and 9 grandchildren. He teaches adult Sunday
school at Northwest Bible Church in Spring.
